The announcement of qualifying exam (October, 2025)

Dear Students,

For those who wish to apply for the Qualifying Examination this semester, please be reminded of the following:

Methods of Passing the Qualifying Examination:

Written Examination

Course Exemption

Thesis Exemption
You must decide which method you will use. Please note that only after passing the qualifying examination may you begin registering for Doctoral Dissertation.

Examination Subjects:
Please carefully review the qualifying examination guidelines for your specialization (Mechatronics, Vehicle Engineering, or Automation), as attached.

Written Examination Applicants:

Please submit the Qualifying Examination Written Test Application Form by Friday, October 3.

According to program regulations, the written test is scheduled for Friday, December 5, 2025 (the first Friday of December, Academic Year 114).

No changes will be permitted.

Detailed information regarding the examination venue and time will be announced 1–2 weeks prior to the exam.

Course Exemption Applicants:

Please prepare your complete transcript and confirm that the course you wish to use for exemption was completed with a minimum grade of 70 and within the top 30% of the class.

Submit the Qualifying Examination Course Exemption Application Form (see attachment), signed by your thesis advisor, the department staff, and the department chair.

Submit the completed documents to the College of Mechatronics office no later than one week before the final examinations.

Thesis Exemption Applicants:

Please submit a full copy of your thesis.

The thesis must list you as the first author (excluding your advisor).

Please note: a thesis used for exemption may not later be counted toward your doctoral dissertation requirements.

Important Reminders:

Students who fail to pass the qualifying examination within three years will be dismissed from the program.

Each written examination subject may be retaken up to two times.

For detailed regulations, please refer to the PhD Program Study Regulations and the qualifying examination guidelines of each specialization.

Note: Students who have already applied for leave of absence, withdrawal, or who have passed the qualifying examination this semester may disregard this announcement.
